Don’t Lose Your Voice- Manchester City Electoral Registration Campaign
From 6th October, Electoral Services will be sending canvassers out to visit households in Manchester that have not returned their electoral registration forms:
- Over 80,000 households have not responded to the initial mailing to homes and a reminder letter sent out by Electoral Services.
- Canvassers will be calling on the households that haven’t responded and seeking a response on the doorstep or via another mailing to ensure people register to vote. If they still don’t register, canvassers will continue to call leaving postcards to alert the household to their next visit and warn them that this is their last chance to register
- If people don’t register they cannot vote and their credit rating may be affected as credit checks are based on the electoral register. They may find it hard to get credit or store cards, mortgages or loans, mobile phones or even a bank account.
- The deadline for this year’s registration is 17 November 2010
This year’s electoral register will be an important source of data to quality assure the Census taken next March. Residents who complete the electoral registration are more likely to complete the Census form in 2011 and thereby improve the accuracy of the Census itself. For these reasons, this year’s canvass process is even more important.
