MONTHLY FAITH DIALOGUE EVENTS

Monthly Faith Dialogue (MFD) events are run by the Faith Network 4 Manchester (FN4M), Muslim Jewish Forum Greater Manchester (MJF), and other partners for people from all faiths, and none.  MFD commenced in September 2009 with the objective of increasing understanding among people of different faiths. MFD has been a forum for generating new ideas and commitment to social action.

 The selection of topics is often inspired by issues that are live in society in the run up to the MFD event. A facilitator with experience and knowledge of the subject to be discussed is appointed to present a brief that will stimulate a dialogue among all participants. Those involved are encouraged to respond to and act on key concerns highlighted during the MDF discussion. At least 60% of each two hour session is devoted to comments, questions and answers; a very good opportunity to build understanding.  Some of the previous topics include the Hajj, visit to the Middle East, Education and Learning, Gender and Political Journey, Identity, Media and Sexuality.

Previous events have not only enabled more knowledge transfer but shown how different faiths can co-operate and respect each other. Working together in this way is a positive example of co-operation and the outcomes showcase the benefits of collaborative working.

 The outcomes for MFD are

•           85% of those attending sessions report an increase in knowledge or awareness;

•           95% of those attending sessions report a positive attitude to other faiths;

•           10% of those attending indicate that they would want to do more to develop better inter-faith or inter-community relations and giving their contact details for this purpose;

•           90% of those attending inter-faith events report satisfaction and that it met their needs.

FAITH SAYS … ABOUT THE MEDIA

We are very excited that we will be joined by Michael Wakelin, former Head of Religion at the BBC and now Director of the Cambridge Abraham Project.

Venue: Cheadle Muslim Association, 377 Wilmslow Road, Heald Green, Cheadle SK8 3NP

 We are expecting a large attendance so would be grateful if you could please email either mail@fn4m.org or muslimjewish@gmail.com if you intend to attend so that we can have an idea of numbers.

There is a ground rule of respect for others opinions, even when in disagreement.

The main purpose of the dialogue sessions is to learn from each other and work towards further joint ventures.

Please attend if you are able and pass this information on to your colleagues and friends.
