Faith Youth Manchester – Co-Exist Event

Co-exist Event Sparks Youthful Harmony.

On Sunday, 16th December 2007, Faith Youth Manchester, the youth branch of Faith Network 4 Manchester, held its first event titled “Co-exist”. This was a chance for young people from different religions and cultures to meet and interact in a fun and relaxed atmosphere whilst overcoming the barrier that tends to arise as a result of people’s different faiths.

Funded by the Government’s Faith Communities Capacity Building Fund and Manchester City Council’s Youth Opportunities Fund, the event was planned and organised by five Peer Youth Workers. Pictured right (from left) Dee Thompson (Christian), Akeem Brown (Buddhist), Sara Warner (Jewish), Toby Carr-Brown (Christian) and Saadia Shafi (Muslim).

They have been working with Jonny Wineberg, Convener of Faith Youth Manchester, since the end of September. To read more about this ground breaking event please click here.

Are they gambling with our future?

On Wednesday, 14th March 2007 FN4M held an evening event entitled ‘Are they gambling with our future?’ This was a chance for the public to have a say on the decision to award the Super Casino to Manchester (picture shown is how the super casino might look) and to discuss concerns with other citizens.

The event wasn’t as well attend as the FN4M committee would have liked, despite advertising via posters, e-mail and other media.

FN4M committee member, Jonny Wineberg has prepared a Power Point presentation on the feedback from the various groups and workshops held during the gathering. To view the Power Point presentation please click here. Alternatively you can view the document as an Acrobat PDF file by clicking here.

One of the speakers at the event was Adrian Scarfe of GAMCARE. To read a review of his talk please click here.
