Co-exist April 2010 Event
The Co-exist: In Your Faith event had a very positive response from the young people involved with most commenting that they had learnt more about other faiths and several wanting to do further work to better inter-faith relations. The satisfaction ratings for the event averaged over 9 out of 10 and all involved indicated a very positive attitude to other faiths after the event. The young people involved in planning the event also reported very positively on the experience and a number continue to be involved with our wider work. Several are also involved with Love Music Hate Racism, who we partnered with in the running of the event, and are now actively involved in helping organise future events. The second event had a particularly positive impact on the young Muslims (mainly from the Somali community) and Jews who attended, giving them a chance to positively interact and break down some of the myths they had previously. The mutual respect young people had for each other following the event was particularly encouraging.
The event also served as a launchpad for Co-exist: The Awards for Interfaith Innovation, which were funded by a private donor. £5,250 has since been granted to 5 young people’s project to be be run between September 2010 and March 2011.
